LED lamp that syncs to music
Now this thing freaking syncs to bass and treble beautifully after i remade it, like it was not awesome nuff. Also upped the quality of this instructable
Short video included of what this does
Blue LEDS that pulse to music, respond extremely well to bass, turn any place into a disco/dance floor :)
[THERE has been an issue in reordering steps]
dont worry about the picture, i actually made another one (based on your comments) and stuffed it inside for twice the awesomeness

step 1You will Need
Power Supply : 6V old nokia charger
Amplifier: 1 channel
LEDS: many ($10 worth)
NPN Transistor
LM340 voltage regulator
Soldering iron
Other stuffs:
Computer with music
Soldering equipment
Wires

step 3LED lights
How to make the part that lights up
cut circuit board into two strips and add leds in parallel
easy method for adding leds
1. insert leds tightly together
2. insert bare wires alongside leds
3. secure bare wire and leds to the bare wire with soldering
4.weave bare wire through board at ends and middle for good measure
tape both led strips into a V formation
ADD TONNES OF LEDS or hook up ur christmas tree

step 4Ready to Go
look at other instructables on how to make a lamp / print some stuff and roll it up or fold into lamp
put leds inside
play some music (max out sound card volume if it is possible to control speaker volume independently)
note: amplifier prevents your sound card from facting the wrath of your power supply. Connecting the LEDs directly to the amplifier output has so far given dim LEDs and slow frequency response (thats why the transistor and the voltage regulator)
Note, 150 ohms is enough to get the leds working at reccomended voltage
however, they are not all of the time so they dont overheat if theres a lil overvolting
be careful, remember to set amp to zero first then turn up volume

step 5Tuning The Device
Set computer volume to max (speaker volume controlled independently), skip this step if your amp isnt cheap like mine.
play music and Turn on Amp to zero volume.
Add volume until desired frequency to brightness response

Add volume until desired frequency to brightness response
step 6Test and make sure it is working
Test on a breadboard with 1 led to fix brightness, tuning and resistance issues
voltage regulator also works in series ( previous version managed to work in parallel but thats because it didnt do anything..lol)
